A composition of five sporting events in Spain featuring athletics, volleyball, trail running, padel and open-water swimming.

October offers five ways to experience sport across Spain. From 4 to 11 October 2026, this selection takes you from the streets of San Sebastián to volleyball courts in Benidorm, indoor padel in León, mountain trails near Navacerrada and the water of Zierbena harbour. It is an invitation to discover different disciplines and places over the coming days, whether you compete, cheer or simply watch.

Each event has its own schedule and access conditions. The dates below distinguish competition days from the wider programme; always check the organisers’ latest information before making plans.

Medio Maratón de San Sebastián Rural Kutxa: road running in Gipuzkoa

On Sunday 4 October, San Sebastián hosts the Medio Maratón de San Sebastián Rural Kutxa. The organiser’s website gives a 09:30 start at the Boulevard, which is also the finish. The certified course measures 21.097 kilometres and appears on the Spanish athletics federation’s calendar. The RFEA listing confirms the 2026 date in its text, although its heading belongs to an earlier edition.

Spectators can follow the changing pace of an urban distance race as runners leave the Boulevard and return to it. The official site also explains bib collection on Saturday 3 October. Check the current route and street information before choosing a viewing point. A visible registration link is no proof that bibs remain available.

IVVA World Veteran Volleyball Championship: Benidorm, Alicante

The IVVA programme and its information hub show indoor and beach volleyball matches from Tuesday 6 to Saturday 10 October, with finals and a closing ceremony on the 10th. The local co-organiser uses the same competition dates and reports that team registrations are full.

There is a genuine difference between the sources: the IVVA page heading says 6–11 October, while its detailed match schedule ends on the 10th. Team arrival and accreditation begin on Monday 5; no Sunday match is listed. Accordingly, the table gives the match dates without assigning an unconfirmed activity to 11 October.

Visitors can see indoor volleyball at the Raúl Mesa pavilion and Palau d’Esports L’Illa, as well as beach volleyball on Poniente Beach. Watching both versions reveals how court size, team play and movement change with the surface. Use the latest IVVA timetable for a specific match and check spectator access separately.

FIP Promises León: indoor padel

From Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 October, León hosts FIP Promises León. The International Padel Federation confirms women’s and men’s competition on indoor courts at Tenis5PadelPrix, Ctra. Zamora-T, 61, in León province. Its schedule places qualifying, if required, and the first main-draw matches on Thursday; semifinals and finals are planned for Sunday 11.

The setting offers a chance to watch pairs anticipate rebounds, cover space and shift initiative from point to point. The federation marks player registration closed. That status concerns competitors; it does not establish admission rules for spectators. Check the latest order of play and ask the venue about access before travelling.

Gran Trail Peñalara: mountain running in Madrid

The Gran Trail Peñalara programme runs from 9 to 11 October in the Sierra de Guadarrama. Its headline GTP race starts at 23:30 on Friday 9 October from Paseo de los Españoles, Navacerrada, Madrid. The organiser lists approximately 104 kilometres and 5,100 metres of ascent, with the finish in Navacerrada on Saturday.

The weekend has several formats: the Friday evening Cross Nocturno de Navacerrada, GTP Relevos, Sunday’s TP60 and a children’s event. This gives followers different perspectives on mountain racing without treating the main ultra as a general participation suggestion. Choose any viewing location through the organiser’s instructions, particularly because the main race starts at night and course arrangements can change.

Galipa Swim: open water in Zierbena, Bizkaia

On Saturday 10 October, the VIII Galipa Swim takes place in Zierbena harbour, Bizkaia. The official site places both start and finish in the harbour. It lists 2-kilometre men’s, women’s and disability events, plus a 400-metre Promesas course.

Published start times are 17:00 for Promesas, 17:30 for the men’s event, 17:35 for the women’s and 17:40 for the disability event. The harbour setting makes it possible to appreciate how open-water swimming differs from a pool race. A registration button remains visible, but it does not confirm that places are still available; check the current rules and notices.

Before planning your visit

Times, access, registration, routes and conditions can change. Always consult the official organiser before travelling. Check the exact session, venue, spectator rules and any postponement or cancellation notice. In particular, do not assume IVVA matches on 11 October; the published match programme ends on the 10th. FIP says player registration is closed, and the Benidorm co-organiser reports full team registration.

Today’s YouVisible challenge

Choose a sport outside your usual routine. Follow a session, cheer from an authorised place, compete if you meet the requirements and have a confirmed place, or save the date for later. Which catches your eye: a half-marathon start, a beach-volleyball rally, a night trail, a padel pair or swimmers finding their way around the harbour?

If you take part, YouVisible lets you record your activity and keep the context of the day: memories, images and how it felt. Share your experience in Comunidad Visibles if you wish, or keep the moment private. Watching and cheering can inspire your own sporting story too, without claiming to have competed.
